Almaty original capital of Kazakhstan. Largest of the Stan's 4000km long x 1000km wide. A silk road city, trampled over by many armies, leaving a very mixed society in terms of wealth and race. Somewhat struggling after the break up of the Soviet Union, but supported by minerals and oil.

The city has has many nice parts but is generally a poor city nestled below some grand mountains that run out over flat arid land.
