Vilnius Lithuania
After a 4 hour drive from Rega (Latvia) we arrived in Vilnius.
Lithuania is the largest economy among the Baltic states, the first country to declare independence from the Soviet Union and now has a GDP per capita 70% above world average.
Clearly sophisticated, prosperous and a fun place.
Despite it’s strong economy, there are large areas of the city that show signs of lack of maintenance.
Having been through 6 soviet states we gained our first real insight into the horrors of the KGB in the Museum of the genocide victims. A walk through the cold damp cells of the former KGB headquarters, leaves you speechless and trembling, a sober reminder of man’s cruelty to man.
